«Maintaining hope requires a somewhat responsive world – where for most of us and in most circumstances this means a somewhat responsive social world – a world of others who, in some way or other, support our hopes. Um Hoffnung aufrecht zu halten braucht es eine wahrnehmungs- und reaktionsfähige Welt – eine wahrnehmende und reagierende soziale Welt – eine Welt anderer, die auf die eine oder andere Weise unsere Hoffnungen unterstützen. Victoria McGeer meint damit nicht eine Welt, die unsere Hoffnungen telquel erfüllt. Konkrete Hoffnungen mögen sich zerschlagen ohne unsere Grundfähigkeit im Licht der Hoffnung zu leben zu gefährden.
